ABOUT · OUR FIRST YEARS

Oriel. The Welsh word for gallery. One room of door samples, paint swatches and live displays.

Stephen Huw Griffiths spent more than fifteen years in the kitchen trade, in design and trade-supply roles across South Wales, before opening Oriel. The company was incorporated on 10 July 2023, with the showroom on King Street in Abergavenny opening the same year. The name is the Welsh word for gallery, a place where work is shown, which is what we built the room to be.

We chose Omega Plc as the cabinetry partner from day one, across all four ranges, plus Blum hinges, local South Wales granite and quartz fabricators, and a vetted Monmouthshire fitting team. The model is deliberately small: one designer, one supply chain, one room. Reviews name Stephen by first name because he is the only designer; the team referenced is the installation crew.

“From the outset Steve brought his knowledge, experience and design flair to the fore and was able to guide us through the many options that were available. We favoured a local company rather than a national one, and in Steve and Oriel it proved to be a great choice.” A. Gittens, on the homepage testimonials

2023 Oriel Kitchens Ltd incorporated 10 July. The Lion House showroom opens on King Street in Abergavenny that same year, with Omega Plc selected as the cabinetry partner across every range.
2024 Elica authorised-dealer status confirmed for the King Street showroom. The Hayley Simmons blog launches, covering the buying process for first-time and second-time kitchen clients.
2025 The Heritage Collection is added: solid-hardwood in-frame, walnut or oak interiors, twenty-six painted shades, the longest-living range Oriel stocks.

SPECIALISM · THE HERITAGE COLLECTION

The new in-frame range. Each door, set inside a visible hardwood frame.

Most modular kitchens build a melamine carcass and screw a door on top. Faster to make, easier to ship, and the door sits proud of the cabinet face. The Heritage Collection we stock is different.

Each door is set inside a solid hardwood frame that is glued and dowelled to the cabinet front. Walnut or oak internal carcase. Blum soft-close hinges as standard. The finish reads as fitted furniture rather than as a row of joined boxes. Twenty-six painted shades are exposed for selection, including Sienna Limestone, Fern Glade Cashmere, Powder Parchment, Le Mans and Cobalt. We can show every one of them against the actual cabinet front in the showroom before you commit.

  • Solid hardwood face frames, glued and dowelled, every door inside the frame.
  • Walnut or oak internal carcases on every Heritage cabinet, not melamine.
  • Blum soft-close hinges, hand-set on every door, every drawer.
  • Twenty-year cabinet guarantee. Ten-year guarantee on the painted door.
WORDS · FROM THE HOMEPAGE

Three voices, all of them naming Stephen.

Reviews on our current site name him personally because he is the only designer. Edited lightly for length.

“From the outset Steve brought his knowledge, experience and design flair to the fore and was able to guide us through the many options that were available. This made the process less daunting and confusing and as a result we have ended up with a kitchen we love. We favoured a local company rather than a national one and in Steve and Oriel it proved to be a great choice.”

A. Gittens · Abergavenny

“From start to finish there was no pressure sales like other kitchen designers. Consultation with Steve was made easy due to his very experienced background and easy manner to deal with. Expert team for installation making the finished product excellent. Would thoroughly recommend this company.”

B. Williams · Monmouthshire

“Oriel kitchens have looked after me from start to finish. From first contact through the design process and right through to the fit and final finish. Steve and the team have communicated with me throughout. I now have a kitchen that is perfect and fits my needs exactly. I would not go anywhere else.”

FAQ · SIX QUESTIONS WE GET MOST

Quick answers, then book a visit for the rest.

Is the first design consultation really free, and who does it?

Yes. The first consultation is free, in the Lion House showroom or by arranged video call, and Stephen leads it personally. Bring measurements, photographs of the room and any inspiration you have collected. We will lay door samples and paint swatches against your photographs while you are there. No pressure to commit.

Who actually makes the cabinets?

Cabinetry across every range comes from Omega Plc, a British manufacturer based in Yorkshire since 1980. We are an independent design-and-installation specialist; Omega builds the cabinets to our specification, and we design, supply, install and stand behind every kitchen we sell. The Heritage Collection is true solid-hardwood in-frame, glued and dowelled, with walnut or oak interior carcases.

What guarantees come with the kitchen?

The Heritage Collection carries a twenty-year cabinet guarantee and a ten-year guarantee on the painted door. The Modern, Shaker and Classic ranges carry Omega Plc’s standard manufacturer warranty. Our installation work is covered for two years from handover, with a courtesy snagging check at six months as standard.

Do you install, or just supply?

We project-manage the full fit using our own vetted installation team. Stephen is your single point of contact from first call to handover. Reviews on our homepage name him by first name because he is the only designer; the team he refers to is the fitting crew, not other designers.

How far do you travel from Abergavenny?

We design and install from Abergavenny across Monmouth, Usk, Newport and Hereford. That is a comfortable single-day-trip radius from Lion House, which is what keeps the bench manageable and the design quality consistent.

Can you supply appliances too?

Yes. We are an authorised Elica appliance dealer, and we specify cooker hoods, hobs and integrated cooling against the cabinet plan as part of the design, not as a retrofit afterthought. Other appliance brands handled on request.
